2026-2027 Reflections Theme: What My Culture Means to Me

What is Art Reflections?  

Reflections is a nationwide art program sponsored by local PTAs. Created in 1969, the Reflections program gives students the ability to have a creative outlet to express themselves, share their unique stories, and find their voices. The program emphasizes positive recognition and celebrates creativity rather than competition. Beck participates every year. Students may submit original work in dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography, or visual arts. Entries are first judged at Beck, with top-scoring pieces advancing to the NISD district level. Some may continue to state and national competitions.

Who can participate in Art Reflections?

The Reflections program is open to all students at Beck. At least one person from their primary household must be a current member of the Beck PTA. Eligible students may enter any or all of the six art categories. Multiple entries within a single arts category are permitted. Each entry must be the original work of one student and created specifically for the Reflections program based on the theme. Each entry must also conform to the guidelines. *Students who identify as having a disability and may receive services under IDEA or ADA: Section 504 may enter in the Accessible Arts division or grade division most closely aligned to their support needs.

This year's theme is What My Culture Means to Me.

We are hosting two after school workshops for brainstorming the theme and getting started on the student's artwork. Students are encouraged to work and complete their artwork at home. Attendance at the workshops are not required to enter Reflections. Supplies and guidance will be available for getting started on visual arts projects only.

- October 13 from 3:05 - 4:00 PM (K through 2nd)

- October 15 from 3:05 - 4:00 PM (3rd through 5th)

History of Reflections

The Reflections program provides opportunities for recognition and access to the arts which boost student confidence and success in the arts and in life. Each year, over 300,000 students in Pre-K through Grade 12 create original works of art in response to a student-selected theme. This 50+ year-old program helps them explore their own thoughts, feelings and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful in school and in life.
